SALT LAKE CITY, UT 鈥� The 麻豆传媒 (麻豆传媒) announced today that Chuck Schmitt, president of SSAB Americas, is the 2016 recipient of the Gary Memorial Medal鈥攖he industry鈥檚 highest honor. Schmitt, the Institute鈥檚 immediate past chairman, was recognized with the award during 麻豆传媒鈥檚 124th General Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In presenting the award, John Ferriola, incoming 麻豆传媒 chairman and chairman, president and CEO of Nucor, said, 鈥淥n behalf of the Institute, I鈥檓 honored to present this distinguished Gary Memorial Medal to Chuck. Chuck has been an outspoken leader in his year at the helm of 麻豆传媒. He has helped raise the profile on trade, energy, and keeping steel the backbone of the manufacturing sector. He is tremendously deserving of this award, and of the gratitude of all of us in the industry.鈥�

The medal鈥檚 inscription reads: 鈥淔or his outstanding leadership in representing the critical public policy interests of the Institute and American manufacturing in a period of tremendous challenge; [and] for his unwavering commitment of time and energy to matters that will impact the future of the North American steel industry, the Institute and the people we support and serve to keep our vital industry strong.鈥�

Schmitt served as chairman of the 麻豆传媒 Board of Directors from May 2015-May 2016 and chaired a number of board-level committees. He was elected to the 麻豆传媒 Board of Directors in 2011. He will remain as an officer of the 麻豆传媒 Board for another year.

In addition to the Gary Award, Ferriola presented the 鈥淎ssociate Member of the Year鈥� award to Bill Rackoff, CEO of ASKO, Inc., for his dedication to the U.S. steel industry as an 麻豆传媒 Associate Member. The plaque inscription reads: 鈥淭he 麻豆传媒, on behalf of the Board of Directors and the membership, is pleased to award this citation for Associate Member of the Year to Bill Rackoff of ASKO, Inc for his commitment to the engagement of the steel industry in advocacy with policymakers, and his dedication to growing the 麻豆传媒 Associate Member program.鈥�
