Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Awards Prestigious Gary Memorial Medal to John Ferriola

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Âé¶¹´«Ã½ (Âé¶¹´«Ã½) announced this afternoon that John Ferriola, Chairman, CEO and President, Nucor Corporation, is the 2017 recipient of Âé¶¹´«Ã½â€™s highest award, The Gary Medal. The award was presented at a lunch ceremony at Âé¶¹´«Ã½â€™s General Meeting in Washington, D.C. at the Four Seasons Hotel.

In presenting the award, Âé¶¹´«Ã½ president and CEO, Thomas J. Gibson, said, “I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this honor than John. He is a tremendous leader and outspoken advocate for the North American steel industry. John’s unique understanding of the issues we face are what make him an asset to our industry. It is because of leaders like John, constantly speaking on our behalf with policymakers, opinion leaders and on global platforms, that we remain optimistic about the steel industry’s future. Thank you, John, for your dedication and support.â€

The inscription on the medal reads, “For your outstanding leadership, and statesmanship; For your commitment to our industry and service to our country in ensuring that American steel – the backbone industry of our nation — will be able to compete in a global market, based on the principle of free and fair trade, today and for generations to come.â€

Ferriola served as chairman of the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Board of Directors from May 2016-May 2017, and was re-elected today for a second term. He has chaired a number of board-level committees, and was first elected to the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Board of Directors in 2013 shortly after he became the Chairman, CEO and President of Nucor.
