Brett Awarded Gary Medal
May 25, 2022WASHINGTON, DC – The Âé¶¹´«Ã½ (Âé¶¹´«Ã½) announced today that John Brett, CEO of ArcelorMittal North America, was awarded the industry’s highest honor — the Gary Memorial Medal — at Âé¶¹´«Ã½â€™s General Meeting in Washington, DC. Brett is a former chairman of the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Board of Directors and has held numerous other leadership roles on the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Board.
In presenting the award, Leon Topalian, president and CEO of Nucor and current Âé¶¹´«Ã½ chairman, said, “I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this honor than John. He is a tremendous leader and outspoken advocate for the steel industry. John’s breadth of industry insight and tremendous understanding of the global marketplace have been critical for Âé¶¹´«Ã½ and our members during a pivotal time for the steel industry. Thank you, John, for your dedication to our industry.â€
The citation to Brett from the Board of Directors reads: “For his exceptional leadership, strategic thinking and commitment to advancing public policy issues critical to the future of the steel industry. For his passion, energy and drive in leading the Institute through a dynamic, challenging period – with a global pandemic, and economic and national security in the forefront; and, for his dedication to amplifying our industry’s voice and our commitment to a sustainable economy with steel as the solution of choice.“
