Outokumpu BA Americas Team Receives Sustainability Award

Outokumpu鈥檚 BA Americas team was recognized by聽Norfolk Southern Corporation as one of 15 recipients of their inaugural Thoroughbred Sustainability Partner Awards. Wesley Moyer, Americas VP of Supply Chain Management, accepted the Environmental Stewardship Award for Outokumpu鈥檚 work on minimizing their CO2 emissions by committing to transitioning to transporting a greater percentage of shipments by rail.

While steel plants are experiencing low utilization rates due to the COVID-19 outbreak. ArcelorMittal idled many processes that, just like the economy, cannot just be turned off and on. Shutting down equipment in a safe and reliable manner is vital to ensure minimal wasting of any energy.

In an effort to be more responsive to the current COVID-19 pandemic crisis, steel manufacturer SSAB Americas has announced that it will immediately begin prioritizing production of steel designated for use in local, state or federal-level COVID-19 disaster relief programs or projects.

ArcelorMittal, a multinational steel giant that employs around 10,000 workers in Northwest Indiana, is using 3D printers to make ventilators and face shields to aid in the coronavirus fight in Spain and Mexico.

Schools in Nebraska are teaming up with Nucor to produce uniquely created face masks for health care providers. Two years ago, Nucor and local school districts utilized grant money from the state to purchase 3-D printers.
